Overview
Modern vehicles and advanced towing systems can create a false sense of security — but safe towing requires specific knowledge, skill and preparation. This half‑day program provides a structured, hands‑on approach to towing trailers and caravans, helping drivers understand towing forces and manage them safely.
Ideal for corporate fleets and private groups.
What You’ll Learn
Participants develop essential towing skills, including:
· Legal requirements for towing
· Hydraulic vs electric braking systems
· Trailer reversing techniques
· Tyre selection and pressure management
· Correct hitches, couplings and tow bars
· Load distribution and suspension
· Sway reduction and stability control
· Weight, mass and stopping distances
· Trip preparation and safety checks
This training improves confidence, decision‑making and on‑road safety.
How It Works
The program blends targeted theory with practical towing exercises.
· Theory: towing laws, vehicle–trailer compatibility, load management, sway control and pre‑trip inspections
· Practical: reversing, hitching/unhitching, confined‑space manoeuvring, braking and cornering forces, real‑world towing scenarios
This structure ensures drivers gain both the knowledge and hands‑on capability to tow safely and confidently.
